Toronto Removed From SARS List
In a long-awaited move bound to help Toronto tourism recovery efforts, the World Health Organization (WHO) announced today that Toronto is no longer on the list of SARS-affected areas.
According to CNN.com, Toronto’s last probable case of SARS was reported on June 12, and after 20 days, WHO considers the chain of transmission broken. Today’s announcement comes more than three months after the first cases were found in Toronto. The city has been plagued with the largest outbreak outside of Asia, including nearly 40 deaths and 252 different cases.
WHO officials indicate the world should be SARS-free within the coming weeks.
