Flooding in Vegas Closes Roads, but Tourist Destinations Unharmed
Powerful thunderstorms ripped through Las Vegas yesterday, causing road closures and blocking power. However, tourist destinations located on the strip remained unharmed and received only light rainfall.

According to a report on CNN.com, the storms left Las Vegas with nearly three inches of rain in 90 minutes. The flooding affected much of the city’s northwest sector. High water closed the southbound lanes of U.S. 95, and nearly 3,000 customers lost power temporarily. No injuries were reported.

Mayor Oscar Goodman declared a state of emergency yesterday and urged Las Vegas residents to stay home.

NTA attempted to contact the Las Vegas Convention & Visitors Authority, an NTA member, for comment, but spokespeople could not be reached. However, the office is up and running with normal hours.
