Travel to Philippines Increases Despite Warnings
Despite a new advisory issued by the U.S. State Department on Friday, the number of travelers arriving in the Philippines grew 7.6 percent to 1.9 million last year, the Department of Tourism said Monday.
According to CNN.com, much of the growth in travel to the Philippines comes from other Asian countries. Total tourist arrivals increased 14.9 percent in December 2002, compared to the previous December. Visitors from China rose by nearly half, while United States arrivals grew 0.8 percent.
The U.S. State Department is warning Americans of travel to some regions of the country because of increased terrorist threats.
