Statue of Liberty Will Reopen Soon
March 26, 2004 – The Statue of Liberty – closed to visitors since the Sept. 11, 2001 attacks – will reopen soon, according to National Park Service officials testifying before Congress Thursday.

CNN.com reports that park officials declined to give specifics, saying they did not want to usurp the authority of Interior Secretary Gale Norton, who will make the official announcement. National Park Service Deputy Director Don Murphy said the reopening was imminent due to a $7 million contribution from the Statue of Liberty-Ellis Island Foundation that has helped with security, health and safety enhancements at the site.
