July 4 Travel Expected to be Heavy
According to a new study from AAA, 37.4 million people are expected to travel 50 miles or more away from home this Fourth of July holiday, reporting the highest number of travelers in nine years.
The study found this number to be two percent higher than the 36.8 million who traveled over the holiday weekend last year. Of the travelers surveyed, 32.6 million plan to make the trip by motor vehicle, 4.3 million by air, and 500,000 via other modes of transportation.
In a continuing trend, towns and rural areas continue to be popular destinations, serving 22 percent of the travel volume, followed by oceans or beaches at 19 percent and lakes will rake in 17 percent of the travelers.
The Travel Industry of America (TIA) conducted the July 4 study on behalf of AAA.
