Hong Kong Tourism Board Building Recovery Campaign
The World Health Organization (WHO) announced yesterday that Hong Kong would be removed from its list of SARS-affected areas and the Hong Kong Tourism Board celebrated by launching a nine-month marketing and recovery campaign to lure visitors back to the area.
According to a report in Travel Management Daily and several online news reports, the Hong Kong marketing campaign will begin with a conference covering the revitalization of tourism in Asia. The Tourism Board marketing efforts will also include a "Hong Kong Welcomes You" package of attractions with laser shows and fireworks, as well as travel incentives and shopping discounts. The promotion will also feature television advertising and documentary films, familiarity trips for trade and consumer media, and more. Additionally, Cathay Pacific Airways announced yesterday it plans to give away 10,000 free airline tickets to support the industry’s recovery.
The WHO’s statement for Hong Kong’s removal from SARS comes after the destination reported 20 days with no new cases.
