Commerce: International Visitors Will Return to United States
In a semi-annual forecast released by the Commerce Department this week, findings project the international inbound market is expected to increased only 1 percent this year, but will fully rebound by 2006.
According to a report on twcrossroads.com, the forecast predicts a 7 percent growth rate for 2004 and 2005, leveling off to 6 percent in 2006. That year is scheduled to bring 51 million international visitors to the U.S., up 22 percent from 2002. International inbound travelers are expected to spend nearly $13 billion in 2006.
Markets contributing to significant growth include Canada and Mexico, which should grow by 24 percent and 21 percent, respectively. Travelers from Europe are also expected to increase by 23 percent before 2006, bringing 10.6 million visitors.
