California Travelers Urged to Call Ahead
October 30, 2003 – California Division of Tourism is urging visitors to call ahead to confirm airline reservations and flight times, road conditions and hours of operation for individual attractions and businesses in light of the wildfires affecting areas of Southern California over the past week. The fires have primarily been concentrated in residential and backcountry areas, although some businesses and visitor services in Southern California have been affected.

According to a statement posted on the Visit California Web site, "most of California is unaffected by the fires at this time. Regions, such as the Deserts, Central Coast, San Francisco Bay Area, Central Valley, Gold Country, High Sierra, North Coast, and the Shasta Cascade remain excellent travel destinations. Top attractions and visitor services in these regions are open and fully operational."

For updated information regarding the Southern California wildfires, contact the regions and individual attractions/businesses directly as conditions change quickly. Regional contact information is available at http://preseason.ntaonline.com/.
