August Wildfires Hit British Columbia
August 4, 2003 – Firefighters are still battling wildfires in British Columbia that have forced nearly 8,500 people to evacuate the area and placed it under a state of emergency.
According to Reuters news service, British Columbia remains under a state of emergency as more than 300 fires blaze across the province. Winds fuel these heavy fires in cities such as Kamloops, about 170 miles northeast of Vancouver. Officials are hoping the weather will improve, allowing them to gain control of the situation.
NTA attempted to contact members in British Columbia for comment regarding the fires, but was unable to reach anyone. All businesses are closed today due to BC Day, a national holiday.
