Visit US-UK Boasts Upturn in US Arrivals From the United Kingdom
March 17, 2004 – The United Kingdom reports a 3.1 percent increase in United States arrivals from the UK over 2002. This report asserts that the United Kingdom is once again the leading overseas market in the world for travel to the United States.

Final 2003 numbers reported by the Visit US-UK Association are very close to the 2001 level, making it likely that the United Kingdom will be the first major market to return to the visitor volumes achieved prior to September 11.

The Visit USA Association’s UK Director of Development, Alan Waddell, states, "The UK market growth in 2003 is excellent news but, most importantly, it does not seem as if there will be any slow down in 2004."

Waddell maintains that the increase in bookings is due to the improved £/$ exchanged rate and the demand from travelers who deferred their travel plans from 2003 to 2004.

"The combination of very wide choice, high quality, many great destinations, exciting attractions – plus now a great exchange rate driving down holiday costs and creating some very real shopping bargains – all create a terrific holiday opportunity that UK travelers are really taking advantage of – in ever increasing numbers."
