U.S. Government to Lower Threat Level to Elevated Today
After 20 days in the alert category, the U.S. Government announced today it will lower the terrorist threat level to yellow, or elevated.

According to CNN.com, Attorney General John Ashcroft and Homeland Security Director Tom Ridge made the decision in a White House meeting this morning. Senior officials indicated moving back to yellow is based on "the consensus that while there are still worrisome signs, things are not as loud and as detailed as we were hearing."

Government officials raised the threat level 20 days ago after learning that Al Qaeda might be planning attacks on American targets.
