Fliers to Soon Face Background Checks
Next month, the U.S. government will begin testing a new risk-detection system that would check background information and assign a threat level to everyone who buys a ticket for a commercial flight.
According to USAToday.com, Delta Air Lines will try out the system at three airports in March, and a comprehensive system could be in place by the end of the year.
Advocates say the system will detect dangerous people but not give unnecessary scrutiny to law-abiding citizens. Critics fear the system has potential for unconstitutional invasions of privacy.
