U.S. Government Closes Busy Mexican Consulate
The United States government announced Wednesday the consulate in the border city of Nuevo Laredo will be closed while it investigates possible illegally issued visas.

According to CNN.com, the U.S. State Department and the Department of Justice are examining allegations that "a number of individuals received visas illegally from the consulate." Officials expect the consulate to reopen in several days, but it will not resume operations in full until the situation is resolved.

The Nuevo Laredo consulate was the sixth busiest consulate office in the world in 2001.
