U.S. Capitol Tours Suspended Indefinitely
Just two days after the Bush Administration declared war with Iraq, the nation’s airports and popular tourist attractions are witnessing increased security. The White House and U.S. Capitol have suspended tours indefinitely and 55 airports across the country remain on a level of high security.
According to the Washington, DC Convention and Tourism Corporation President & CEO William Hanbury, "Washingtonians and visitors to our nation’s capitol are heeding the President’s advice to go about their daily lives. Washington, D.C. remains open, and we welcome families and visitors to come and enjoy everything our city has to offer."
Despite the urging of the Bush Administration for Americans to go about their daily lives, the U.S. Capitol Building has temporarily suspended public tours. However, pre-arranged group tours organized through a congressional office will continue as scheduled. Additionally, tours of the White House have been temporarily suspended. For more information, contact the White House Visitors Center at 202-456-7041.
