Travel Spending by International Visitors in Canada Rebounds in Third Quarter 2002
Total travel expenditures by international visitors to Canada rebounded in the third quarter, helping to support increased tourism employment and sparking a recovery in real tourism spending.
According to the Canadian Tourism Commission, foreign spending for third quarter 2002 increased 0.9 percent, reaching $3.9 billion. As a result, tourism employment in Canada was raised to 580,000 people.
Overall, tourists in Canada spent a total of $11.7 billion during third quarter 2002, a decline of only 1 percent over the second quarter. Canadians traveling within the country spent $7.8 billion during their trips, down 1.8 percent from the previous three months.
