Tralliance President Answers Questions About ".travel" Domain
August 15, 2005 – The pre-registration process for the ".travel" top-level domain name initiative is in its second month, and many NTA members have applied to take part in this opportunity to expand your outreach and capitalize on the power of the Internet as a sales tool. Ron Andruff, president and CEO of Tralliance, the registry for the ".travel" domain, recently discussed the impact ".travel" will have on the industry with Travel Trade editorial director Nick Verrastro.

Travel Trade asked Andruff questions many in the travel industry may be asking themselves. When asked how ".travel" domain will be different from the dot-com domain, Andruff replied, "You are known by the company you keep. Customers will be confident that when they purchase on a dot-travel Web site, that business has met stringent requirements and has been verified as a legitimate travel and tourism operation. Dot-travel will have the most rigorous eligibility and name selection procedures yet developed. Careful screening of registrations will serve to "authenticate" businesses and organizations in the travel industry, which, in turn, will position dot-travel domain holders as highly trustworthy enterprises. The consequence of this is dot-travel will reduce Internet problems, such as trademark infringement, cyber squatting and speculation in domain names. "

Andruff also addressed the effect of ".travel" on travel research and online sales, as well as the significance of the ".travel" directory.
