Texas Residents Asked to Return Home Section at a Time
September 26, 2005 – Hurricane Rita forced more than 3 million people from the Louisiana coast and several Texan cities to leave their homes last week. The mass evacuation caused a 15 to 20 hour traffic jam in some areas. Now residents are eager to get home and officials are working to avoid similar traffic complications. (Xanax online)
The state of Texas is asking for residents to be patient to ensure all Texans return home as safely and quickly as possible. The Texas Department of Transportation has developed a plan to stagger the return of Rita evacuees over at least three days.
According to the DOT, it is not safe for residents of the Houston, Galveston or Beaumont/Port Arthur to return home yet. Gas is in very short supply along all southbound highways leading to these cities. Officials hope that staggering the return home will reduce long lines of traffic and assist with fuel shortages.
