Storm Aftermath: NYC Updates, Nov. 16

November 16, 2012

NTA has received an update from Carolyn Feimster of Historic Shopping and Dining Attractions, including a request for help.

Dear Travel and Tourism Industry Friends:

While Hurricane Sandy has dealt us a body blow at the South Street Seaport Museum, the crew of the Seaport Museum is working around the clock to re-open the doors for our visitors as soon as possible.

While so many are still suffering, our future is optimistic. We are pleased to announce that:

  • The exhibitions and collections were completely unharmed.
  • The seven historic vessels at the seaport are safe and secure.
  • New exhibitions include a Street Photography Exhibit, featuring hundreds of submissions from people across the globe.
  • And the best news: the Museum hopes to open in the coming weeks!

While repairs will cost money, the damage was limited to electrical equipment. Donations in any amount to the Seaport Museum can be made at http://www.southstreetseaportmuseum.org/donate.asp. Please send whatever you can! Even a small gift will make a huge impact.

For questions about your groups and FIT travelers, contact Travel and Tourism Manager, Carolyn J. Feimster, at Carolyn@HistoricShoppingandDining.com. Please rest assured that we are doing everything we can to make the property a fun and safe environment for your clients once again. Also, if you have clients visiting NYC in the immediate future, we are happy to accommodate them at the Museum of the City of New York, http://www.mcny.org/.

The South Street Seaport Museum celebrates New York’s maritime past through a collection of vessels and through exhibitions and school and public programs. For more information on recovery efforts:
