NTA, Industry Partners Petition FCC To Reconsider Unsolicited Fax Rules
NTA, in conjunction with the American Society of Travel Agents, the American Hotel and Lodging Association, International Council of Cruise Lines and the Cruise Lines International Association, have petitioned the Federal Communications Commission to reconsider rules that would severely limit commercial enterprises’ ability to send unsolicited faxes.
The rules – which would have gone into effect Aug. 25 but were postponed until Jan. 1, 2005 – have caused a stir in the business community since they were announced in July. Noting that the travel industry accounts for 10 percent of the fax broadcast industry, the petition states that "securing, storing and keeping physical, or even electronic, signed consents from this large and ever-changing collection of firms and individuals would be a monumental and costly undertaking."
NTA will continue to pursue regulatory relief for our member companies. For more information on this issue, contact NTA Government Relations at 800-682-8886.
