New Orleans CVB Prepares Temporary Office
September 1, 2005 – The New Orleans CVB is working with the La. Lt. Governor to establish an alternate office in Baton Rouge by next Monday, according to Travel Pulse Daily. They hope to open skeletal operations in order to work with convention and meetings clients and tour operators and leisure industry professionals.
The CVB office on St. Charles Ave. is closed and not likely to have power restored for three or four weeks. Only the CVB personnel who evacuated will be able to work at some level at this time. It is estimated that more than 90 percent of the CVB staff will have sustained major home damage or outright loss of their homes. The CVB is trying to maintain communications with all emergency preparedness entities and with all travelers, meeting planners, and tour operators at this time, but asks that the regional offices be contacted by travel industry members with questions or concerns.
The CVB emphasizes that its ability to work with and contact member hotels and other member companies is severely impaired. They ask for patience with suppliers and properties who are under incalculable stress at this time.
