Navy Museum to Reopen Weekends
February 20, 2004 – The Navy Museum, located on the Washington Navy Yard in Washington, D.C., will reopen to the public on weekends and federal holidays beginning March 6, but reservations are required.
After Sept. 11, 2001, the Washington Navy Yard limited access to the general public for security reasons, and The Navy Museum was forced to shut its doors on weekends. After working with the Navy Yard’s security force, the museum now will accept visitors on Saturday and Sunday if they have called for a reservation by the preceding Friday at noon.
To make reservations, call 202-433-6897. To visit the museum on weekends, enter the Washington Navy Yard at the 6th and M Street, SE Gate. Photo identification is required for entry onto the Navy Yard.
The museum’s operating hours are Monday-Friday, 9 a.m.-4 p.m. (until 5 p.m. April 1 through Labor Day); Saturday, Sunday and federal holidays, 10 a.m.-5 p.m. The museum will be closed Thanksgiving, Dec. 24-25 and Jan. 1. To access more information on the museum’s Web site, click here.
