Parts of Vietnam Veterans Memorial to be Closed This Year
February 20, 2004 – Portions of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington, D.C., will be closed this year in order to improve the lighting of The Wall.

According to the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Fund and the National Park Service, the memorial’s 19-year-old lighting system will be replaced over a five-month period this year. The project will require that the east and west portions of The Wall be closed for up to three months each. The exact dates of the project have not been determined, but it is anticipated to take place from June through October.

The new lighting system will illuminate the entire 140 panels of the black granite memorial from top to bottom.

For the most up-to-date information about the memorial’s lighting project, visit the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Fund Web site at http://www.vvmf.org/ or call 202-393-0090.
