Hawk Fire not affecting Reno-Tahoe tourist areas

Visit Reno-Tahoe has confirmed that the Reno-Tahoe area remains open for business, and current wildfires are localized outside major tourism zones. Local tourism and hospitality partners report that hotels, casinos, and major attractions are fully operational and welcoming guests. 

According to Tourism Sales Manager Katie Demuth, the wildfire is located north of Reno and geographically removed from primary convention, hotel, and visitor areas. There is no fire threat to downtown Reno, the Reno-Sparks Convention Center, or the primary areas where visiting groups will be staying and meeting.  

“We recognize that images and reports seen through national news coverage may not always provide a clear sense of the fire’s proximity to Reno’s primary visitor areas, and we can assure you that there will be no negative impact to your experience,” Demuth explained. 

Fire crews continue to make progress in the North Valleys with containment at 30 percent as of this morning, according to local news sources.  Visit Reno-Tahoe has created a designated space within the Reno-Sparks Convention Center for the American Red Cross should it be needed for evacuation support, but dedicated entrances and security will ensure there is no disruption to scheduled groups or events.
