Alitalia Cancels Flights Before Nationwide Air Controllers’ Strike Thursday
Italy’s national airline, Alitalia, has canceled 168 flights and rescheduled another 126 in anticipation of a nationwide strike by air traffic controllers scheduled Thursday.

According to the Associated Press, 96 domestic flights and 72 international flights were being canceled. No intercontinental flights were affected. The airline said that about 20,000 passengers would be grounded.

In a four-hour walkout scheduled early Thursday, union members will protest prospective downsizing in the government body responsible for air traffic control. This strike is the first of several air and ground transportation protests scheduled for March.
