The Secure Travel Partnership accurately reflects the programs security, traveler benefits
Washington – Today, the Visit U.S. Coalition applauded the introduction of bipartisan legislation that renames the Visa Waiver Program, rebranding it as the Secure Travel Partnership. This change better reflects the program’s security standards and traveler benefits.
“Rebranding the program as the Secure Travel Partnership more accurately depicts the program’s secure relationships between the U.S. and partnering countries,” said Visit U.S. Coalition spokesperson Andrea Riccio. “Americans want to welcome international travelers and show them what makes this country great. The Secure Travel Partnership will continue to allow vetted, secure travelers to visit the U.S., bringing benefits to all sectors of our economy.”
This bipartisan legislation was introduced by Reps. Mike Quigley (D-Ill.), Tom Rice (R-S.C.), Raja Krishnamoorthi (D-Ill.), and Guy Reschenthaler (R-Pa.).
Through this legislation the Secure Travel Partnership would continue to vigorously vet applicants from the program’s partnering countries against multiple law enforcement and security databases. Once approved by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, applicants are able to travel within the United States for up to 90-days. Changing the program’s name to the Secure Travel Partnership better reflects the rigorous screening process that takes place, and will help to make American the most secure and visited country in the world.
