United to Offer Frequent-Flier Miles to Delayed Passengers
June 15, 2005 – United has announced that some passengers arriving late at their destination by 30 minutes or more will receive 500 miles towards their frequent-fliers.
This new award applies to flights to and from O’Hare International Airport and seven destinations: Philadelphia; Boston; New York’s La Guardia; Newark, N.J.; Minneapolis-St. Paul; Dallas-Fort Worth; and Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport.
United will honor the miles even if bad weather or air traffic control problems cause the delay. These flights will also be assigned to the concourse at O’Hare that is the closest to ticket agents and security lines.
The program, which began Tuesday, will run through the end of the year and might be extended beyond that, United spokeswoman Robin Urbanski said.
"It is to show our customers in Chicago that we have service that is better than the competition," Urbanski said.
United customers must register to be eligible to receive the 500 miles.
