United Airlines Announces Profit For May
June 15, 2004 – United Airlines announced that it will report a modest profit for May 2004.
The airline’s CEO Glenn Tilton stated that the airline would emerge from bankruptcy protection by the end of the year – even if it does not secure a federal loan guarantee. In its monthly operating report, United also reported that its per-passenger revenue grew by seven percent from the same month a year ago.
In the filing with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, United stated that its May unit costs fell 15 percent from the same month a year ago. United appears optimistic, with statements that bookings for June and July were "strong".
