Trains Collide Near Penn Station Injuring 130 Passengers
April 19, 2004 – Passengers on a Long Island Rail Road train received quite a bump this morning as they approach Penn Station. Rush-hour commuters were rear-ended by an empty Amtrak train, injuring about 130 passengers but none seriously. The train was said to have been traveling at less than 15 miles an hour at the time of the collision.

While both Amtrak and the Long Island Rail Road are characterizing the accident as minor, it did cause rush-hour delays for commuters traveling on other Long Island Rail Road trains.

Some commuters suffered bruises, cuts and whiplash and were sent to area hospitals by city buses. David Billig, a fire department spokesman stated, "No one critical, no one serious all injuries appear to be minor".

According to officials, the accident is still under investigation.
