Parks Canada Strike Update
August 16, 2004 – Parks Canada’s employees entered into a legal strike position as of 12:01 AM Friday, August 13, 2004.

While closures and delays are possible, Parks Canada reports that they will make every effort to operate normally throughout this period of potential work stoppage. Some closures or partial closures may be necessary in some cases to ensure public safety and protect valuable assets, or due to insufficient operational capacity.

TIAC issued a statement, stating, "We can assure you that Parks Canada, in recognition of the importance of national parks, national historic sites and national marine conservation areas to tourism businesses and local economies, is making every effort to keep its facilities across the country open and to maintain visitor services."

Admission to national parks, national historic sites and national marine conservation areas affected by considerable service disruptions will be free until normal service resumes.

For information on service levels at individual national parks and national historic sites, visit http://www.parkscanada.ca/ or call 1-888-773-8888.
