Parks Canada Reaches Tentative Agreement
October 18, 2004 – The Parks Canada Agency reached a tentative deal October 11th with the Public Service Alliance of Canada, which represents 5,000 Parks Canada employees who have been engaged in a series of rotating strikes since mid-August. Normal fall service schedules have resumed at all national parks, national historic sites (including historic canals) and national marine conservation areas of Canada. The new agreement is still subject to ratification by the PSAC membership. If the proposed four-year agreement is ratified, it must still be voted on by the members of the bargaining unit – tourism businesses operating in and around Canada’s national parks and national historic sites can look forward to an extended period of labour certainty.
