NTA Watching Gustav Closely, Offers Member Assistance
Aug. 29, 2008 – Exactly three years after Hurricane Katrina, many along the Gulf Coast are watching Tropical Storm Gustav today. New Orleans Mayor Ray Nagin said on Thursday that he will order a mandatory evacuation of the city if forecasters predict a Category-3 strike, or possibly even at Category-2, within 72 hours.
NTA has been monitoring news reports of Gustav, and wants members in the area to know that NTA is available to you if you need any assistance in a crisis situation. We can help you communicate news and information, as well as share needs and requests, to the entire NTA membership.
Any member can go on to the member forums at any time to post a message (your login information is included with each weekly issue of Tuesday), as well as contact NTA with information they would like distributed to the members. You can e-mail NTA Vice President of Communications Catherine Prather at catherine.prather@NTAstaff.com. NTA Headquarters will be closed on Monday for the U.S. Labor Day holiday. If members need anything over the weekend or on the Labor Day holiday, they can reach Catherine at 859.797.0671.
For additionally information, you can visit Weather Underground for tracking maps for tropical storms and hurricanes.
Also, the Dept. of Homeland Security has established a Ready Web site where you can find an emergency supply checklist, download an emergency plan and link to local information. Ready also has resources and tools available on its Web site to help business owners ensure their business plans stay up and running, talk to their employees and protect their assets. You can also call 1.800.BE-READY or 1.888.SE-LISTO for more emergency preparedness information.
Once again, we are hoping that this information is not needed, yet the NTA community is here to support you if the assistance is needed.
