New Research Shows Packages Remain Popular Among Families

February 19, 2009

According to Ascent MI’s Leisure Travel Monitor, packaged travel remains a popular choice for families. Packages accounted for the majority of trips taken last summer, with the greater part of travelers staying 14 nights.

For non-family holidays, seven nights remained the most popular trip length, accounting for just under 40 percent of passengers. This compared to 14-night holidays, which made up just 24 percent of passengers last summer but amounted to 36 percent of revenue, up 1 percent year on year.

The biggest year-on-year growth in durations of holidays sold in the adult market was for eight to 13 nights, up 20 percent, and short breaks, up 7 percent or 200,000 passengers. In addition, sales of all-inclusive holidays were up 18 percent last summer.
