Authorities Work to Restore Air Travel By Weekend
Federal authorities are working to get the nation’s air traffic system back to normal by the weekend after thousands of flights were canceled due to Hurricane Isabel.

According to CNN.com, U.S. Secretary of Transportation Norman Mineta reported 5,700 flights were canceled because of the hurricane, which has now been downgraded to a tropical storm. The cancellations affected 20 airports along the East Coast.

Officials suggested that customers planning to fly this weekend should not go to the airport without contacting their airline first. Customers may also check the Federal Aviation Administration’s Web site, www2.faa.gov, for airport status.
