Survey Says Affordability Increasing U.S. Residents’ Intent to Travel

According to the most recent results of the travelhorizons quarterly survey, the U.S. Traveler Sentiment Index rose to 90.2 in February 2009 from 78.2 in October 2008 due to an increase in the perceived “affordability of travel.” The survey, which was conducted from Feb. 7 to 13, polled a representative survey of 2,270 adults, from which the Index is calculated.

The week of March 23, tour operators will receive the first in a series of surveys on the economy conducted by the GW graduate students. Passport Day In the USA is March 28

On Saturday, March 28, the U.S. Department of State will celebrate “Passport Day in the USA,” a national outreach event established to help educate the public about U.S. travel document requirements. All Department of State Passport Agencies and many Passport Acceptance Facilities around the country will host passport application acceptance events. U.S. citizens without a valid passport book or passport card are encouraged to apply on this day.

NTA is working to assist its members in Nevada in maintaining full funding and independent staffing for the Nevada Commission on Tourism. Nevada Governor Jim Gibbons has proposed a 60 percent cut in funding for the Commission and is calling for a redirection of room tax and a merger with the Commission on Economic Development. Legislators will consider the issue today, Thursday, March 19.
