WHO Extends Travel Advisories in Toronto, China and Beijing
Just one day after the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) issued an advisory against travel to Toronto over SARS, the World Health Organization (WHO) increased its travel warnings, urging travelers to avoid destinations including China’s Shanxi Province, Beijing and Toronto, Ontario.
According to CNN.com, the advisory urges people to avoid travel to these areas for at least three weeks. The warning is an extension of a previously issued advisory against travel to Hong Kong and China’s Guangdong Province.
Canadian officials were disturbed by the advisory, saying it is an "overreaction" for their country.
The SARS illness has killed 251 people in 27 countries thus far, with 4,288 probable cases. SARS has caused a total of 16 deaths in Canada.
