Washington, D.C. Prepares for Possible Flooding
The eastern United States, including the Washington, D.C. area, is preparing for the possibility of flooding this weekend following a record-setting snowstorm that arrived early in the week.

According to CNN.com, the week’s snowfall in Washington is expected to equal roughly 2 billion gallons of water once it melts, and another heavy rain this weekend could cause more problems. Officials in the northern Virginia area indicated they are monitoring the Potomac River basin upstream in hopes of warning popular tourist destinations located downriver, such as Alexandria’s Old Town district.

In the Baltimore and New Jersey areas, officials are urging citizens to shovel snow away from sewer grates to provide a place for rain and melting snow to go.
