U.S. to Add 5,000 Air Marshals
About 5,000 extra armed officials will be added to protect commercial flights , Homeland Security Tom Ridge announced Tuesday.
According to CNN.com, the federal air marshal program will be transferred to the Bureau of Immigration and Customs Enforcement so that agents in both can be cross-trained and used for aviation security. This will allow the government to put extra agents on airliners when officials believe they are being targeted by terrorists.
