Southbound I-95 in Conn. Reopens
March 31, 2004 – The southbound lanes of Interstate 95 reopened on Wednesday after being shut down last week when a fiery tanker truck crashed.

The northbound lanes of the bridge reopened on Sunday. Road crews have worked around the clock to repair this main link between New York and Boston. reports officials have paved over a section of the temporary bridge that was brought in to replace the overpass damaged from the crash.

Gov. John G. Rowland said that the temporary bridge is safe. "That temporary bridge could be used for years if it is properly maintained," he said.

Officials initially suggested that it could take up to two weeks to repair the overpass. Repairs come just six days after the crash.
