WTTC Forecasts Strong Growth for U.S. Travel Industry
March 01, 2004 – The World Travel & Tourism Council is forecasting a strong return to growth for the U.S. travel industry in 2004.
In its 2004 forecast released Feb. 27, WTTC predicts demand – encompassing all components of travel and tourism consumption, including tourism consumption, investment, government spending and exports – would grow 7.3 percent and total $1.5 trillion in 2004.
The United States is expected to benefit from strong European and United Kingdom traffic resulting from the strong pound and euro to post nearly $100 billion in total visitor exports.
The forecast also predicts that the U.S. travel and tourism industry will produce more than one-quarter million (263,190) new jobs in 2004 over its 2003 level to total 6.6 million jobs.
