Winter Storm Cripples Travelers Throughout the South
A fierce winter storm dumped heavy snow across the southern portion of the country yesterday, leaving drivers stranded and forcing many flight cancellations.
According to CNN.com, the storm moved its way across Arkansas, Texas, Oklahoma, Tennessee, Mississippi and Alabama. Officials indicated at least six people died in weather-related accidents and three immigrants died as a result of hypothermia in South Texas. At the Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport, American Airlines cancelled approximately 220 morning flights due to the storm and nearly 2,500 stranded travelers spent the night in airport terminals.
The National Weather Service is predicting another round of light snow and freezing rain could pass through Oklahoma and Arkansas today.
