Waterloo Convention and Visitors Bureau Reports on Iowa Flooding
June 26, 2008 – The Waterloo Convention and Visitors Bureau has issued a statement following severe flooding in the area. The CVB reports that many of the businesses serving travelers to the community are functioning at their normal capacity.

"We have a few attractions and activities whose operations are still being affected by the recent floods, but a large number are back to their normal operations," said Aaron Buzza, executive director of the Waterloo Convention and Visitors Bureau. "Visitors who would like to visit will find Waterloo as vibrant and welcoming as ever."

According to a statement released this week, many Waterloo hotels are housing residents affected by flooding and earlier tornadoes as well as officials and volunteers assisting in the recovery process. The CVB recommends travelers make hotel reservations in advance.

Buzza said that annual Waterloo activities including the Dan Gable Wrestling Museum’s professional hall of fame induction weekend, Waterloo Jaycees Fireworks Festival and 75th Annual Greater Waterloo Open will go on as planned.

"While life has changed for many people here in our community, many Waterloo businesses and attractions are getting back to pre-flood activities. Visitors will still have the opportunity to experience what makes Waterloo a great place to live, work and visit," said Buzza. "Our community has shown great support for all those affected by recent events, and visitors will see and feel that same care when they come to Waterloo."
