Vancouver Wins Vie for 2010 Winter Olympics
With exciting news for the Canadian tourism industry, the International Olympic Committee announced yesterday that the 2010 Winter Olympics would be held in Vancouver.

According to the Tourism Industry Association of Canada and various news reports, Vancouver was selected over bids from Salzburg, Austria, and Pyeongchnag, South Korea. The Vancouver government supported the city’s bid for the games with a budget of $34 million. This is the first time the Olympic games will be held in Canada since 1988.

"Hosting the 2010 Winter Olympic Games and Paralympic Games in Vancouver-Whistler will bring tremendous benefits to the Canadian tourism industry as a whole, not just in British Columbia, but in all provinces and territories," said TIAC Chair Peter Elmhirst. "It will provide substantial tourism product opportunities and legacies that will serve our industry and visitors for decades following the Games."
