U.S. Terror Threat Level Lowered
The U.S. Department of Homeland Security lowered the nation’s terror threat level today to yellow, or "elevated."

According to CNN.com, counterterrorism officials said intelligence indicating possible attacks had diminished since May 20, when the level was raised to orange, or "high." Concern over heightened vulnerability surrounding the Memorial Day holiday also influenced the decision to raise the alert.

Also playing a factor in the decision to lower the level today was concern over the financial toll the move to "orange" alert status was taking on cash-strapped state and local governments, requiring them to impose tighter security measures.
