U.S. State Department Issues Travel Warning for Hong Kong
In attempts to contain the outbreak of severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS), the U.S. State Department issued a travel warning advising Americans to defer trips to Hong Kong.
According to the State Department, the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and the World Health Organization (WHO) are reporting a total of 685 diagnosed cases of SARS in Hong Kong since November 2002. The CDC also issued a similar travel advisory and is distributing health alert notices to those traveling through the port of entry or returning from any of the SARS-affected regions.
Citizens are urged to monitor the CDC and WHO Web sites frequently for updates on SARS at CDC.gov and WHO.int.
