U.S. Market Share of International Travel at a Dramatic Low
The total U.S. market share of inbound international travel declined in 2002 from almost all major tourism markets, this according to a new Market Share Indicator report from the Travel Industry Association of America (TIA).

The study proves that overseas travel to the United States declined 12 percent in 2002 from 2001, a pattern that has reached 42 percent total since 1992. Some of the markets examined in the study include the United Kingdom, which declined only 0.8 percent in 2002, and Japan, where tourism to the United States declined seven percent. The U.S. market share from Brazilian travel declined by 13.8 percent in 2002 over 2001, and from Germany, it was reduced eight percent in 2002.

South Korea was the only long-haul market to demonstrate an increase for U.S. market share, growing 3.1 percent in 2002 to a record share of 49.5 percent.
