Travel Warning Issued in Nigeria
The U.S. government has issued a Travel Warning for Nigeria, citing religious and ethnic tensions and safety concerns.
According to The State Department, current conditions in Nigeria are posing heavy risks to travelers in the area. Religious tension between Muslim and Christian communities is causing occasional acts of violence, and the State Department is warning, "violent crime, committed by ordinary criminals, as well as persons in police and military uniforms, can occur throughout the country."
The warning further states that use of public transportation throughout Nigeria can be dangerous and travelers avoid it.
