Traffic Alert for Lower Manhattan
April 6, 2005 – According to NYC & Company/Convention & Visitors Bureau, the vertical clearance of the Battery Park Underpass in Lower Manhattan is temporarily reduced to 12 feet, effective immediately. The Battery Park Underpass connects FDR Drive/South Street and Route 9A/West Street. The reduction is necessary for the protection of traffic during the demolition and replacement of the Battery Park Underpass roof structure.
The reduced vertical clearance affects both the southbound FDR Drive/South Street and southbound Route 9A/West Street approaches of the Battery Park Underpass. The restricted vertical clearance will be in effect through August 31, 2005. After August 31, 2005, the clearance will be returned to previously posted clearance of13 feet.
Buses are not permitted to use the Battery Park Underpass without special permit issued by New York City Department of Transportation.
