TIA: Baby Boomers Generate Highest Travel Volume in U.S.
Oct. 14, 2003 – Baby boomers (age 35-54) generate more travel than any other age group in the United States, according to the Travel Industry Association of America’s Domestic Travel Market Report, 2003 Edition.
Baby boomers took more than 241 million household trips last year, according to the study. Mature travelers (age 55+) took 31 percent of all household trips, while Generations X and Y (age 18-34) took 26 percent.
The study also revealed that baby boomer travelers are also the most affluent, with 44 percent having an annual income of $75,000 or more, much higher than any other age group. Baby boomers spend more on their trips than any other age groups, averaging $491 per trip, excluding transportation to their destination. Fourteen percent of baby boomers spend $1,000 or more on a trip, excluding cost of transportation.
