Senate Approves Omnibus Bill; Slashes Inbound Tourism Funding
January 23, 2004 – The U.S. Travel and Tourism Promotion Advisory Board will likely have $40 million less than originally proposed to promote inbound tourism thanks to a Senate vote Thursday.

The Senate approved the $328 billion Omnibus Appropriations bill that includes a provision to cut $40 million from an original $50 million fund to bolster inbound tourism. The U.S. Travel and Tourism Promotion Advisory Board, made up of travel industry representatives including several NTA members, has met several times and has scheduled a Feb. 11 meeting, but has not spent any of its appropriations yet.

The bill, which President Bush is expected to sign soon, also contains a provision to continue the ban on travel by Americans to Cuba. NTA is working with the Association of Travel-Related Industry Professionals and other industry organizations to get the Cuba travel ban lifted.
