Scotia Prince Cruises Cancels 2005 Season
April 7, 2005 – Scotia Prince Cruises has canceled its 2005 season due to a "lack of safe and appropriate facilities" at their Portland terminal.

Dangerous levels of toxic mold were discovered last August in the terminal facilities the company leases from the City of Portland. The city had not made the facilities safe for employees or passengers as of April 1, 2005. Therefore, they cannot continue operations and the federal agencies cannot provide border formalities and security checks.

"We are acutely aware of the challenges this development causes for our tour operators and we want to see how our department may be able to assist them make any necessary adjustments to their Nova Scotia itinerary," said Rodney MacDonald, Minister of Tourism, Culture & Heritage. "Nova Scotia is certainly open for business."

Scotia Prince states that those who have already booked trips for 2005 will be contacted shortly and will be refunded 100 percent of all payments. They will also receive a credit worth 20 percent of their current booking, to be applied against future travel as compensation for the inconvenience.
